Inspiring The Next Generation Of Manufacturers During Manufacturing Day
October 19, 2017
This month, Miller Fabrication Solutions joined more than 2,000 manufacturers across the United States in opening its doors for a day of plant tours and demonstrations to celebrate modern manufacturing with the community. Students from elementary schools through university level attended the event, along with local business people, politicians and residents.
Manufacturing Day is a national event designed to inspire the next generation of skilled workers. It started in 2012 with 240 events and has grown to more than 2,800 events in all 50 U.S. states, plus Puerto Rico. All told, participating manufacturing companies attracted nearly 600,000 people this year, including 267,000 students.
Custom welding and fabrication manufacturer Miller Fabrication Solutions centered tours around the latest in manufacturing equipment, manufacturing processes and how technology is advancing all aspects of a fabrication manufacturing plant.
“Technology is tightly woven throughout our organization,” says Eric Miller, Vice President of Miller Fabrication Solutions. “Our local community was able to witness it firsthand through the real-time dashboards rotated on flat-screen televisions throughout the shop floor, to the optimized programming of our Giddings & Lewis Boring Mill.”
Across the country, 89% of students who attended Manufacturing Day in 2016 said they’re more aware of manufacturing jobs in their communities. Even more exciting, 84% of students think careers in manufacturing can be interesting and rewarding, according to the official Manufacturing Day website.
