Miller Welding & Machine Co. Expands Capabilities, Achieves Latest ISO Certifications

BROOKVILLE, Pa – June 11, 2018 – Miller Welding & Machine Company (MWM), a strategic metal fabrication partner for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), is deepening its commitment as an OEM supply chain partner with the expansion of its manufacturing capabilities and achievement of the latest Quality and Environmental Management System ISO certifications.

Hydraulic Part-Leveling Capabilities

MWM has added new leveling capabilities with the purchase of the ARKU FlatMaster® 120. The hydraulic leveling equipment produces flat-stamped, laser-cut and plasma-cut parts, and can level materials from .12″ to 1.375″ thick, 78.7″ wide and 20′ long. MWM is one of three companies in the U.S. to own and operate the ARKU Flatmaster 120.

“The addition of this machine to our existing, extensive equipment list gives us the ability to hydraulically level parts, thereby flattening the part back out and reducing stress in the material,” explains Rich Steel, MWM’s Director of Business Processes. “With this new service offering, we anticipate even greater improvements to product quality and our overall customer experience.”

New ISO Certifications

In order to further organize processes, enhance the efficiency of processes and resources and ensure continual improvement, MWM has been certified under ISO 9001:2015 in Quality Management Systems and ISO 14001:2015 in Environmental Management Systems, as of May 18, 2018.

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) revised its Quality Management Systems and Environmental Management Systems versions to accommodate structure changes and introduce new terminology and mandatory definitions, among other updates.

“Our ability to maintain a management system that meets current ISO standards is a critical aspect of our business. The results show in the high level of quality we can provide for complex projects, the speed and efficiency with which we can operate, and the improvements we make in our environmental impact,” said Devin J. Callihan, Assistant Quality Manager and lead auditor at MWM.

The transition to these standards was a 13-month process for the company, during which MWM executed several changes, including the rewriting of the entire quality manual.

“We viewed the certification process as an opportunity to reevaluate and simplify our existing practices against the standards. Our continuous improvement efforts never cease, and we plan to seek additional certifications for our management system in the short term,” Callihan said.

ISO is an independent, non-governmental international organization with a membership of 161 national standards bodies. Through its members, ISO experts share knowledge and develop voluntary, consensus-based, market relevant International Standards that support innovation and provide solutions to global challenges.
