Manufacturing Leadership Award Bestowed to Miller Fabrication Solutions

Company’s internal Weld Program honored for demonstrating manufacturing excellence in Talent Management Leadership

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – April 1, 2019 Miller Fabrication Solutions, a strategic metal fabrication partner for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) across construction, mining, material handling and conveying and other heavy equipment industries, today announced that it has been recognized as a Manufacturing Leadership Awards winner for its outstanding achievement in Talent Management Leadership for its internal Weld Program. The award is presented by the National Association of Manufacturers’ (NAM) Manufacturing Leadership (ML) Council.

Manufacturing Leadership Award Winner - Miller Fabrication Solutions

The Miller Weld Program, which launched last October, provides non-welder employees with training in Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welding and typically lasts four weeks. This Program gives Miller employees the opportunity to train to become a welder while still working in his/her existing role as a full-time employee. Successful graduates are then able to advance to a welding position within the company.

“Our internal Weld Program was designed with our organizational purpose in mind,” says Casey Belfiore, Miller’s Manufacturing Director, who oversaw the inception of the Program. “Which is, to improve the lives of our employees and community. This program contributes to that purpose by building upon the skillsets of our existing employees as well as satisfying our increased need for quality welders.”

Casey Belfiore, Miller Fabrication Solutions’ Manufacturing Director, oversaw the inception of the award-winning Miller Weld training program.

Belfiore explained that Miller’s demand for welders stretches beyond its focus on manufacturing automation. “We simply cannot get equipment in fast enough to meet our needs.”

Program classes run four to five hours each day and start students with planning and layout work before progressing to setting up and operating welding and cutting equipment.

“The Weld Program is a hands-on, practical application with an emphasis on safety,” says Belfiore. “Students learn how to read blueprints and better understand metal properties, metal identification, electrical principles, and welding symbols.”

The Program is managed by five Miller foremen and accepts three students at a time. Since the start of the Program, 89 percent of employees who completed the Weld Program have moved into various weld roles at Miller. Currently, the program has 12 potential students on its wait list.

“Based on our advancement rate, we believe the Weld Program at Miller Fabrication Solutions has performed very well,” says Belfiore. “We’re now looking to apply this Program model to other departments throughout the company.”

Miller will be recognized at the 15th Annual Manufacturing Leadership Awards Gala, which is to be held on the last day of the Manufacturing Leadership Summit, June 10-12, 2019 at the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort and Spa in Huntington Beach, CA.

Last June, The Fabricator® magazine named Miller one of the top 10 OEM fabricators in the United States as part of its 2018 Fab 40 list. This list identified the 40 most successful metal fabricating operations based on 2017 reported revenue.
